Lauren E. has a voice to be heard, and that is why her story is being shared now. An occasional attendee of the Thursday group, Lauren has been thriving in her addiction. She is a social media influencer in the health and wellness space, and has a three-year-old daughter that keeps her very busy these days!
Looking back 4 years ago, I would never have guessed that my life would look like it does today.
June 1, 2016 is the day I decided enough was enough and it was time to get sober. I found out I was pregnant with my daughter and I knew that something needed to change. I had periods of sobriety prior to that date but I lacked the consistent willingness it takes to work this program, so I had a few relapses.
Before sobriety I felt like I was broken. I had 0 self confidence, I couldn’t take responsibility for my actions and I had a hard time looking at myself in the mirror. I was going down a path of ultimate destruction and I knew deep down that there was more out there for me.
After getting sober, finding a homegroup, getting a sponsor and working through the steps my life has completely shifted. Not only am I a responsible adult who pays their bills on time (who would’ve thought) but my behaviors have changed. I can look at myself in the mirror and smile. I no longer destroy relationships with people who want the best for me. I constantly work on my self and push myself to grow. The list could go on and on. I’m proud of the person I am today and am continuing to become and I NEVER thought I’d be able to say that.
Who knew that so much could come from putting down the drink and working a program of action.
